Ninja Theory, 2017
This time, I wanted to lean into a more realistic sound approach - gritty, grounded, and physically felt - focusing on the fight sequences, impacts, slashes, movement, and overall coherence of the soundscape so that nothing felt out of place. Even the “mind-breaking” sequence and the sudden apparitions of enemies were designed to blend naturally into the lore of the scene, rather than stick out unnaturally.
I didn’t put too much emphasis on Senua’s vocal expressivity or the voices in her head, simply because I didn’t have access to the kind of high-quality vocal library I would have wanted to really do them justice - and honestly, it wasn’t my focus point for this redesign anyway.
For the creation process, I worked with a mix of field recordings, sound banks, and synth layers, shaping and blending them together to keep the sonic world consistent and believable while still powerful enough to support the intense atmosphere. I really wanted to make the combat feel impactful and visceral while keeping the transitions and psychological elements seamless.
